College Credit for Heroes is a program available to veterans and service members looking to obtain their EPCC degree at an accelerated pace. If you have acquired trade skills while in the military, you may be eligible to receive college credit based on your experience.

A Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) will evaluate your Joint Service Transcript (JST) and determine which EPCC credits are equivalent to your military training or work experience. If the training or work experience is determined that it does not meet all the objectives of a course, a Competency Based Education (CBE) class can be taken to complete the credit. CBE will allow the student to show competency in the missing course objectives in an accelerated eight-week program.

Credits obtained through College Credit for Heroes, PLA or CBE can be applied towards an Associates of Applied Science (AAS), Associates of Science (AS), or Associates of Arts (AA) degree.

How It Works

  1. Apply for Admission
  2. Register for Credit Classes
  3. Submit official transcripts of your military training (Joint Services Transcript, JST) to Visit Academic & Military Transcripts webpage for additional information.
  4. EPCC will evaluate your military training and award appropriate academic credit. (Note: Not all military training will receive recommendations for academic credit. Also, academic credit may not be applicable towards your selected EPCC degree plan.)
  5. Inform your counselor that your military training is being evaluated. Once evaluation is complete, you can determine the best academic pathway to meet your objectives, without having to repeat any course work.
