​​​​​​The HPRS discipline offers courses to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of health-related topics. These courses are required by some Health Occupations programs and are electives in other programs. Courses include: Introduction to Health Professions, Wellness and Health Promotion, Medical Law/Ethics for Health Professionals, Medical Terminology, Interpretation of Laboratory Tests, Healthcare Communications, and special topics in Health Professions & Related Science (Border Health Issues).

This discipline offers a Border Health Issues enhanced skills certificate of completion to individuals who are pursuing or have completed a health care or related degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. This program prepares individuals from a variety of health occupations educational programs to work as members of a multidisciplinary team to meet the health care needs of the U.S./MX border communities.
