The Automotive Technology Two-Year Program provides the knowledge and skills for entry-level employment in the automotive
field and related areas. Students are required to obtain a basic tool kit and OSHA-approved safety glasses. The Associate
of Applied Science Degree also offers certificate options. The certificates include some of the courses in the degree
plan, providing the student with alternate exit points. The Automotive Program at El Paso Community College is recognized
through the National Automotive Technicians Foundation Institute for Automotive Service Excellence* (NATFE).
The instruction, courses of study, facilities, and equipment of this institution have been evaluated by (NATFE) Standards
of Quality and for the training of Automotive Technicians in the following 8 areas: Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle,
Manual Drive and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning,
and Engine Performance. The testing and certification of Automotive Technician in these areas is scheduled by ASE Institute
twice per year.
