Admissions Procedures require students to compete for placement into all Health Occupation programs. Students competing for the 15 seats will be required to complete the required courses prior to acceptance into the program. Once admitted by the Office of Admission, the program can be competed in two years.
Surgical Technologists are vital members of high-functioning surgical teams and work closely with physicians, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to provide optimal patient care. Surgical technologists are responsible for creation and maintenance of the sterile field; anticipating the surgeon’s needs; organization and care of surgical instrumentation; prevention of potential retained surgical items by performance of appropriate counts; and managing all areas of surgical procedures within their scope of practice and in coordination with the other team members before, during, and after surgery. Successful completion of this program allows graduates to take the Certified Surgical Technologist examination to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• The minimum expectation is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
• Capstone experience: taking the Certified Surgical Technologist examination.
• Minimum grade required for specialized and academic courses: C

Acceptance into this program is determined by a competitive ranking formula which factors in individual academic performance, Specialized Admissions criteria, and the successful completion of ranking and/or mandatory courses, as applicable.
