Story

Ever since she was a little girl, Jazmin Amezcua always looked up to police officers, believing they were angels watching over people and keeping them safe, and she always knew it was the career that she would pursue. Jazmin graduated from the EPCC Law Enforcement Academy with her associate degree in 2012 and later that same year she got her Texas Peace Officer License. Jazmin had a great experience at EPCC. Like many students, she had to work and study at the same time. Working part-time in a telemarketing job while attending full-time at EPCC, she struggled to get her degree; however, the flexible hours and different schedule options offered at EPCC made the experience much easier and more enjoyable. Jazmin was able to schedule her classes either during mornings or afternoons to be able to work and pay for her studies. Even though she affirms those were tough days, she always enjoyed the different student activities at EPCC. “I enjoyed all the events they had in the cafeteria, the union, meeting Tejano Jack, and the cheerleaders,” she said. “I always felt the EPCC spirit at the campus.” After serving at the Horizon City Police Department, she applied to become an EPCC Police Officer. In 2015, she returned to give back to the institution that provided so much to her. “EPCC helped me in my personal and professional life by providing me with a good education, a good mentor, and a good place to work,” Jazmin said. “I have been working for EPCC PD for four years now, and I love it! I enjoy coming in to work every day and doing what I love!” From jump starting their vehicle to being a mentor, Officer Amezcua helps the students in so many ways since her return to EPCC. Students often come up to her and ask about how to become an officer like her. And when they do, she proudly tells her story of receiving her associates at EPCC.
