A CEU is NOT a transferable credit to another institution. The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is an internationally recognized unit of measurement to record an individual's successful participation in non-credit continuing education courses that meet appropriate criteria. As defined by El Paso Community College's accrediting agency, The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS); "One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction." are awarded to permit and encourage the adult student to utilize a host of continuing education resources to serve personal and professional needs. Students who participate in and successfully complete El Paso Community College courses that award CEUs will receive a certificate documenting the CEUs, from the sponsoring Continuing Education training department, that may be useful for promotion, certification, or licensure. Courses offering CEUs are clearly marked, for example: First Aid 8hrs/.8 CEUs.

 

What is a Concurrent Course?

Concurrent courses share the facility and instructor with credit courses. There are a selected number of continuing education (non-credit) course sections that meet concurrently with credit courses. These sections are made available to those wishing greater flexibility in developing their class schedules. Concurrent courses can be found in the areas of Computers, Health Occupations, Personal Enrichment, Plastics Technology, Precision Machining, and Real Estate and are clearly identified by the letter (c) next to the section number. Students in concurrent courses must meet all objectives that credit students meet in order to receive a certificate of completion.

 

Please Note: If you enroll in a concurrent course and later decide you want to transfer to the credit course, the transfer must be done on or before the census date of the current academic semester, and only if you are presently taking or have taken credit courses at El Paso Community College. A student may petition for conversion of CEU to credit, through the appropriate Continuing Education Director, within two years of completing the Continuing Education course.
