to Use V.V. Library Adaptive Technology
Dragon
Dictate allows student to speak to the computer.
- Before using this software,
students MUST take a training at the Center
for Students with Disabilities (C.S.D.)
- You will find Dragon
Dictate on computer #78.
- Headphones are kept at
the Check-out Desk.
ZoomText
allows the user to enlarge the text on the screen.
- You will find ZoomText
on computer #79 .
- If the software is not
enabled automatically, click on the ZoomText icon to get it started.
- ZoomText has a
built-in screen reader.
- A manual is available
at C.S.D.
- Headphones are kept at
the Check-out Desk.
Kurzweil
3000 Reading System scans pages and reads it to students. Note that a copy
has to be made, it will not scan books. Kurzweil will also allow you
to save files in the flash drive.
- You will find Kurzweil
3000 on computer #80.
- Headphones are kept at
the Check-out Desk.
To use Kurzweil 3000:
- Turn Scanner on. (Button
is green color on front of scanner)
- If this fails, unplug
machine and connect again, then turn it on.
- Click on the "Kurzweil
icon."
- Place copy on right
hand margin of scanner. CLOSE LID.
- Go to task bar menu
and choose "Scan."
- Select "Start New Scan."
It is going to take a while. The bottom of the screen shows you the status
of the scanning process. Document will eventually show on screen.
- Go to the task bar menu
and choose "Read."
- Select "Start Read."
- Put on headphones.
- To exit, go to File,
select Exit. "Yes" if you want to save to a flash drive. "No" to just Exit.
- Scanner will automatically
turn off after a couple of hours. Students can use the Kurzweil to read a
file that they have saved form a library terminal. (For example, the library
catalog, the online databases, the Web, Word documents.)
Genie
Pro enlarges the font of print sources.
- Turn the power on by
switching the level under the 3 round buttons.
- The different buttons
change the background and font color and the level of magnification.
