- Occupational
Outlook Handbook (Careers* REF HF5382.5.U5) Provides career
guidance, information on nature of work, working conditions, employment, training,
outlook, earnings, plus descriptions from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
- O*NET
Dictionary of Occupational Titles (Careers* REF HB2595.O16) Based
on information obtained from the U. S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Census Bureau,
and other reliable sources. Replaces the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.

about careers are kept separately on shelf #13.
Use
the catalog to find out other books on particular careers/fields.
Want to transfer to a university? Look for information on colleges in books
such as Narrative Descriptions, from the series The College Blue Book.

Catalog
Do a
subject search under your career or field and then add the subheading: vocational
guidance. For example:
- chef–vocational
guidance,
- actor–vocational
guidance
or
the name of the field:
- culinary
arts–vocational guidance,
- food
industry–vocational guidance;
- performing
arts–vocational guidance
To
see a listing of books on different careers, do a title search under the series
VGM Opportunities, Careers & Opportunities, or Careers in
Focus.
Online
Databases
Use
the database Vocational
& Career Collection. You can use also databases listed under General
Interest Articles. Do a keyword search. For example: architect* AND career*.
For a subject search, use Infotrac OneFile. Make sure you click
on Subject Guide Search. Search under your career/field (culinary
arts, nursing, etc.) Scroll down to the subdivision: "study and teaching," "employment,"
etc.
World Wide Web
Use
the Open Web for additional resources. For wages and trends:
America's
Career InfoNet
- Click
on "Occupation Information."
- Type
your occupation on the search box.
- Select
occupation and click "continue."
- Select
state.
- Notice
that you may get a video about your career and, if you scroll down, you find state
and national wages and trends.

- Click
"Find Occupations."

Or, click "Skills Search" if you want to match your skills with different careers.
- Scroll down
for information on wages and trends. Choose a state and click go.
