- Occupational
Outlook Handbook (Careers* REF HF5382.5.U5) Provides career
guidance, information on nature of work, working conditions, employment, training,
outlook, earnings, plus descriptions from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.
- O*NET
Dictionary of Occupational Titles (Careers* REF HB2595.O16) Based
on information obtained from the U. S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Census Bureau,
and other reliable sources. Replaces the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.

Use
the catalog to find out other books on particular careers/fields.
Want to transfer to a university? Look for information on colleges in books
such as Narrative Descriptions, from the series The College Blue Book.

Do a
subject search under your career or field and then add the subheading: vocational
guidance. For example:
- chef–vocational
guidance,
- actor–vocational
guidance
or
the name of the field:
- culinary
arts–vocational guidance,
- food
industry–vocational guidance;
- performing
arts–vocational guidance
To see a listing of books
on different careers, do a title search under the series
- VGM Opportunities
- Careers & Opportunities
- Careers in Focus
Online
Databases
For a keyword search, use
the database Vocational
& Career Collection. For example: architecture AND career. You can
also use databases listed under General Interest Articles. For
a subject search, use Academic
OneFile. Make sure you click on Subject Guide Search.
Search under your career or field (culinary arts, nursing, etc.) Scroll down
to the subdivision: "study and teaching," "employment," etc.

Outlook Handbook
- On the left margin,
type your career on "Search OOH."
- For trends, click "Job
Outlook," "Projections Data," "Earnings."
Career
OneStop
- Click on "Occupation
Information."
- Click on "Occupation
Profile."
- Type your occupation
on the search box.
- Select occupation and
click "continue."
- Select state.
- Notice that you may get
a video about your career and, if you scroll down, you find state and national
wages and trends.
O*Net
- Click "Find Occupations"
or "Skills Search."
- Find Occupations will
give you a summary of your career and wages, trends.
- "Skills Search" will
match your skills with different careers. Try it. It is fun!
