English as a Second Language |
In response to El Paso's unique sociocultural environment, the English as a Second Language (ESL) sequence of courses provides essential English language training which ensures the student's ability to participate in the socioeconomic mainstream. Successful participation in the ESL sequence serves as a prelude to the pursuit of vocational/technical or academic plans of study. ESOL/RESL/ESAL courses include lab activities which students pursue to reinforce classroom work. If the student takes the Writing and Structure courses at the same time, there will be only one lab fee.
The English as a Second Language courses are designed to develop the student's English language proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. There are 24 courses divided into four tracks and six levels. All courses in a level are corequisites and should be taken concurrently. Students enter courses at the level determined by the results of the assessment testing. |
