My name is Aleyah De La Torre and I am a sophomore at El Paso Community College. I love the RISE Program because I am able to do research and get first hand experience, while working with some of the smartest students and most intelligent doctors. These days getting your PhD.D. requires that you have research, and the rise program highly prepares us for that. After this year, I would love to travel out of state for my Bachelor's, but if all else fails I will be going to UTEP. Currently at the Texas Tech Health and Science Center  I am doing research on the Analysis of Gene Expression on Breast Cancer Tissue. In this case I am taking a closer look at the progesterone hormone gene in which is a key factor in pregnancy. To do this we inject rats with 3.0 Milli liters of progesterone and collect samples of the treated and non treated controls, we then check for an up-regulation or down-regulation of the gene.
