The Aspen Institute recently announced that El Paso Community College has been named one of 10 nationwide finalists for the Aspen Prize for community college excellence which recognizes a college’s impact on student success. EPCC was selected from a pool of nearly 1,200 community colleges and is one of only two Texas institutions to be selected as finalists. This preeminent recognition of high achievement and performance in community colleges, recognizes excellence in four areas: Learning, Degree Completion, Employment and Earnings, and Success for Minority and Low-Income Students.

“Being ranked among the Top 10 Community Colleges in our nation is a remarkable achievement,” Dr. William Serrata, EPCC President said. “This is a tribute to EPCC’s long history of commitment to student success and it is a testament to the collective efforts of the Board of Trustees who set the vision for EPCC, to our faculty, staff and administrators this is an important recognition of our passion and commitment to facilitating student success.”

EPCC was selected through a rigorous process conducted by Aspen’s Finalist Selection Committee which is comprised of former community college presidents along with leaders in educational research and policy who reviewed extensive data on performance and improvements in learning, graduation, workforce outcomes, and equitable outcomes for all students, especially those in traditionally under-served groups and low-income backgrounds.
