Increase in Thefts District wide

With the start of a new semester the El Paso Community College Police Department would like welcome all new and returning students and faculty. Since August 2012 we have seen an increase in thefts involving personal items such as phones, books, wallets, and parking decals. We ask for everyone to do their part in safeguarding personal property and should your valuables be stolen we ask that you call Campus Police to report the theft. Thinking that it can only happen to someone else and doing nothing to prepare yourself or take precautionary measures makes you the perfect victim. The El Paso Community College Police Department offers some crime prevention suggestions towards protecting your valuables.

  • Lock your vehicle
  • Never leave your valuables out of your sight
  • Be aware of your environment, leaving a book on the table while you get a drink or food is not a good idea.
  • Immediately report any suspicious activity to Police

 Tejano Alerts

The Tejano Alert Emergency Notification System is being transitioned to a new service provider.  This change is expected to be complete by mid-February, 2013.  In the interim, please look to the EPCC Web Home Page and local radio and television channels for weather-related announcements.

For the implementation of the new system and at the beginning of each academic year, EPCC will follow the new Texas statute which changed the Education Code to require an emergency alert system at each institution of higher education.  In accordance with the legislation, our new system will be an “opt-out” system where every registered student, faculty and staff member of the EPCC community will be automatically subscribed at the beginning of the academic year.  Each subscribed person will be able to register or correct their notification preferences or, with a signed request, opt out of the system altogether.  Much more detailed information will be provided as we approach official implementation.
