What is the difference, journal or magazine?

Sometimes you will be asked for articles from "scholarly journals". Scholarly journals contain articles considered to have a higher academic content or value for research purposes than regular "magazines," such as Time and Newsweek.

Some periodicals don't fit into either group - some of their articles may be considered scholarly, and others not. When in doubt, always ask your instructor whether or not they consider a particular periodical to be acceptable.
