Ask a Librarian

When beginning a research assignment, it is important to know what kind of information you will need to complete the task. Do you need substantial background information on a topic that may be located in a book or in a journal, magazine, or newspaper article? Or do you need short answers like names, places and dates that may be found in an encyclopedia, almanac, directory or other ready reference source? Using the correct search term is an essential step. Ask a librarian for help if you are not sure what term to use.
