Blanca Campa, a graduate of El Paso Community College and professor of education at EPCC’s Valle Verde Campus, recently completed her Doctoral Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at New Mexico State University. Her dissertation was a qualitative study which focused on the resilience of Mexican-American community college students. Dr. Campa was inspired by her own students at EPCC and wanted to gain a deeper understanding of their backgrounds, classroom experiences, and perspectives. One area that she was particularly interested in was instruction. Her research uncovered a number of pedagogical themes, suggestions, and methods which she calls “Community College Quality Teaching.” Dr. Campa hopes that her findings will help community college faculty more effectively interact with their students and help more Mexican-Americans succeed in their academic studies. |
