Technical Services
Reference
In the Reference area of the Library you find materials that are used for consultation.
They contain brief information on different subjects. For an overview or a background
on a subject consult a Reference Book.
Reference materials do NOT check out.
Examples of reference books are encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, directories,
handbooks, and statistical sources.

Circulation
- Policy to check out materials
Students need a validated student I.D.
Community users need to fill out an application and show an I.D. with name and current
address. The card expires in 1 (one) year. Community Users should adhere to ALL general
circulation policies. Community Users can only check out 2 (two) items at the same time.
Priority of circulating material is given to students and faculty. A $1 (one) dollar fine will be
charged for lost cards.
- Loan period
- books = 3 weeks
- video = 1 week
- kits (cassettes & book) = 1 week
- Fines
There is a fine of 5 cents per day per item that is overdue.
- Lost books
Users will be charged for the replacement cost and for a processing fee of $10 (ten) dollars
Failure to pay overdue fines and replacement costs will result in the blocking of all
registration procedures for students, and in the revocation of the library card for community
users.
- Renewal
Materials can be renewed after lending period is over. User should bring the
materials with him/her for renewal.
- Holds
If the material is on loan, you may place a "hold" or reserve it by notifying the
library assistants behind the circulation desk. The information you need to provide is: title, call
number, campus where available.
- Transfer of Materials
Materials will be transfer among the community colleges. Simply notify a
library assistant at the Circulation Desk. The information you need to provide is: title, call
number, campus where available.
- Reserve
Some materials are placed on Reserve, according to teachers' instructions or
librarians' judgement. This material is to be used in the library. It does NOT
checkout.
Periodicals
Publications that are published periodically (every week, 2 weeks, monthly...) are called
periodicals. For example: magazines, journals, newspapers. The library has back and current
issues of periodicals. Selected current titles are display in alphabetical order in the Periodicals
Area of the Library. Periodicals do NOTcheck out. They have to be used in the library.
Photocopiers are available. Copies are 5 cents each.

The Technical Services Office processes and makes available materials for the libraries.

Cataloging
Provides record of materials, following established standards and guidelines.
Acquisition
A librarian is in charge of overseeing and coordinating the development
of the collections at the libraries. Faculty, students, and staff are encouraged
to submit requests of material that may improve the library collection.
Requests will be reviewed by librarians and will be submitted according to need,
priorities and resources available. Librarians are assigned liaison activities with
other departments .
