New Early College High School breaks ground at NW campus

The EPCC NW campus has had its Early College ground-breaking inauguration on Nov. 5th.

The school will be the third Early College High School EPCC has started. The school gives students an opportunity to start their college education early free by earning both a high school diploma and an associates degree or up to 60 college credit hours.

The goal of the school is 100 percent graduation and transfer into a four-year college or university.

Northwest Early College High School was made possible by the

EPCC and Canutillo ISD partnership through an $864,000 grant from the Greater Texas Foundation and the Texas High School Project/Communities Foundation of Texas, which provides technical assistance to the early college high school.

The project is designed to increase access to higher education for underserved and underrepresented students.

The campus is looking to recruit 100 students for the 2008 fall semester.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for students whose parents don’t have money to send them to college,” said Becky Ortega, Northwest campus academic assistant.

“I’m very excited to see the school get the wheels in motion.”
