Anyone who believes there isn’t any penalty for ignoring unpaid parking tickets at any EPCC campus may
be in for a rude awakening.
As few as five unpaid parking tickets can result in a vehicle being fitted with a wheel immobilizing “boot,” making it impossible to drive off campus.
To date, EPCC has given out 175 tickets for moving violations this semester on all campuses.
From the date anyone fails to pay their fifth ticket, they have 10 days to pay the full amount of the outstanding tickets before the boot can be applied.
According to EPCC traffic clerk Teresa Turon, a $15 fee will be added to the outstanding amount to have the boot removed.
As long as you are a student at EPCC, tickets won’t show up on your record because they are treated as “in-house tickets,” according to the police department at VV. If somebody is not enrolled at the college, they receive a JP (Justice of the Peace) ticket and have to go to court.
Speeding is treated as wreckless driving,
and carries a fine of $35.
Parking decals can be purchased at the traffic offices on the different campuses at a cost of $5 per semester. Students can also get annual decals (Sep. 1 to Aug. 31), which cost $15. Any additional vehicle registration requires a $3 fee.
Continuing Education students that are enrolled for 19 hours or less do not need a decal. Information like this can be retrieved from the information booklet given out at the VV traffic office.
“We want students to comply with our traffic regulations,” said Seta Stansbury, Manager of Traffic Operations at VV.
