Following a sequence of events occurring at the commencement of yet another combat tactic in the war on terror, Lions for Lambs is the true-to-life film of our time.
The film details an hour in the lives of six people: a professor and his uninspired student, a politician and a journalist, and two brotherly soldiers at the heart of the conflict.
Off the record, Senator Jasper Irving, (Tom Cruise) reveals to Janine Roth, (Meryl Streep) a newly discovered alliance that threatens the much anticipated US victory of the war.
At the start of their interview, Irving puts into action his new plan to turn the war around and reinstate the lost international support and respect for the American government.
In the same hour, soldiers Arian Finch and Ernest Rodriguez find themselves stranded alone on enemy soil, injured and lacking ammunition.
Elsewhere in the States, Professor
Stephen Malley, (Robert Redford) uses
the hour to encourage his once star pupil, Todd Hayes, to become involved, not only in class, but more importantly in the defining events of his time.
Mistaken by some as a promotional device for the ending of the war led by President Bush, Lions for Lambs is in actuality an equitable account of the arduously made decisions of those who govern the war, those who dishearteningly contemplate the best way in which to aid our nation during the war and those who fight the war.
This film sparks the American viewers’ patriotism. The film does not offer an obvious solution to our real-life issue of finding an end to the six-year war on terror, but instead emphasizes the importance of resolving the on-going conflict as a nation is its entirety, every individual citizen making a solicitous contribution.
Lions for Lambs arouses overwhelming respect and admiration for the American soldier.
Lions for Lambs is one of Robert Redford’s greatest accomplishments as a director. The film has seamless editing and devastatingly real special affects.
Every American should see this film.
Viewing Lions for Lambs is nearly equivalent to that of fulfilling a civic duty.
