Some years ago the market of Piracy became a costume the city of Juarez . CD's and DVD's are produced in major quantities in machines that are able to do thousands of discs per minute.
The people that make this material are doing a better and better work to equalize the quality of the image and the sound of a movie or a compact disc pirate than an original one.
Carlos Mendoza, creator and distributor from this illegal business, commented in the interview that the machines that he owns are able to create 100 CD's and 50 DVD's per second. That is the reason for which the retailers always have so much variety when selling these products.
“The material to reproduce comes directly from a place called ‘Tepito' in Mexico City reason why we are just responsible for the production in series. I have been many years in this business and fortunately I have succeeded
economically,” added Mendoza .
The cost for a DVD varies between 20 to 50 pesos depending on the quality of the image while a CD can be purchases for the minimum cost of 5 pesos.
This business has become a mafia because the people who produce these massive quantities of material sell them as well to the distributors and so on.
The problem is that the authorities have not done anything to stop this black market. Patricio Escobar customer of a market in Juarez thought that this business still effective thanks to the authorities because they do not see it o they do not want to.
“For me is better to shop this way because I just see movies no more than three times and then I keep them in a closet to don't see them again. I do not agree the pay ten times a movie if I can just pay a little quantity. Moreover, the quality of the pirate DVD's is almost the same as the original ones,” Escobar said.
Nonetheless, the industry is already taking charges to finish with the problem. According to an article in El Diario de Juarez, Raul Vasquez, the director of the Federation of International Producers of Phonograms and Video grams, the audiovisual industry ask to the government of the United States to apply fines against Mexico if DVD piracy commerce and production does not reduce. In Mexico , the agency AFI has taken part of this problem and has arrested these retailers. The problem is that this just happen in Mexico City , therefore in Juarez this people do not have any restrictions on doing it.
With so many information that press shows daily is necessary to get rid of this problem. Although it does not seem to affect, piracy is a business that cut jobs. If artists do not sell their CD's, the economy of the country will be affected in the future.
