El
Paso Community College and the El Paso Sports Commission are co-hosting
the 2006 Division I, National Junior College Athletic Association
Male and Female Cross Country National Championships this year.
Approximately 57 schools will be participating at the event, which
will take place at the Ascarate Park Municipal Golf Course on Saturday,
Nov. 4.
According to EPCC’s Coordinator of the Athletic Information
Program, Dana Eisenga, there are 257 women and 280 men listed as registered
athletes with 237 women and 251 men eligible to compete from all regions,
except for California.
Last year, Central Arizona College took the gold as a team in both
the male and female categories, while EPCC finished 8th in the female
team category and 10th in the male team category.
The event will be free of charge to the public, but there will be
a parking fee of $1.
The race will start at 9 a.m. for the females, which consists of a
5k run and the male category will start at 9:45 a.m. which consists
of an 8k run.
There will be food and beverages available at the race along with
event shirts priced at $12 for short sleeves and $15 for long sleeves.
The award ceremony for all the team and individual representatives
will be held at the El Paso County Coliseum Equestrian Center on the
same day of the event at noon.
