EPCC to host Pow Wow

El Paso Community College will hold its first ever Native American Pow Wow event at the at the Mission del Paso Campus on Nov. 8. The event will start at 6:30 a.m. with a Sunrise Ceremony followed by the blessing of the Tee Pees.

There will be two Tee Pees that students and visitors can enter and learn about the four different cultures that participate in this event. The Native American tribes that will be participating in this event are the Manso, Tigua, Mexica, and Apache tribes.

Among the activities will be various food stands depending of the tribe. All tribes except for the Tigua will have a story telling session about their ancestors and historical backgrounds.

There will also be arts and crafts of these four participating tribes, as well as their presentation and placing of the staffs from each family and ceremonial dances.

This will be an educational, cultural, traditional event of the Native American culture to be enjoyed by everyone free of charge at the EPCC MdP campus from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
