The northeast corner of the Valle Verde Campus at the intersection of Phoenix and Hunter is very dark when the sun goes down. This is very dangerous and unsafe for anyone that is walking or crossing this intersection. Also, this corner is very dangerous for students that are coming or going to college at night.
This intersection is very high with traffic at all hours. The speed limit for vehicles is 30/mph, but many travel at higher speed to beat the lights. There is also a bus stop that is close to this intersection for student use. It is also dangerous for females that are waiting for the bus.
The community college has several small cottages at this section that are very close together and also dark.
This would make it an ideal spot for a crime to happen. There was a Circle K convenient store at this location, which always had plenty of lighting from the store and the gasoline pumps. This made the intersection safer and less hazardous than it is now.
I propose that the college install several Solar ‘High-lux’ street lights at the corner of Phoenix and Hunter.
The price for each light with pole would be about $ 2,499. This is still a lot of money, but it would pay off in the long run. EPCC would be a safer place and the street lights would also improve the neighborhood.
