Do your political homework
By Nick Davis

Well, it’s November, and President Bush still hasn’t kept his promises on Iraq.

In his Jan. 10 address to the nation, Bush said, “To establish its authority, the Iraqi government plans to take responsibility for security in all of Iraq’s provinces by November.”

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m tired of this war. It has cost us about half a trillion dollars, thousands of troops and an inflating economy.

Now is the time to learn about the different candidates, because I’m sure we do not want another president that deceives people.

After three-and-a-half years in Iraq, the president has changed the mission’s objective many times.

However, this isn’t about him. It’s about us. We have the strength in numbers to empower a great leader that will not deceive us every time things aren’t going the way he planned.

Voting is the key, but knowing the background of the candidate you want to vote for is much more important.

When I say background I mean the voting history.

Most presidential candidates are politicians in their respective states and they vote on different bills just as we do. And if you ask me, a candidate’s voting history shows what he or she stands for and against.

There are websites such as congressmerge.com where you can see how your state representative voted for a particular bill.

Presidential candidates who have voted for a bill that the people voted against, will often have a lengthy explanation as to why they voted for it.

That’s bull. These people should be intelligent enough to conduct the research needed to understand who, what, when, where and how a certain bill will work.

Understanding what is important to you and your family should always help you make your decision about a candidate.

Many of the bills being passed will not affect us as much as they will our children.

So, remember to do the research needed before you choose someone that makes life harder for you and your loved ones.
