Software helps ESOL monitor students' progress

The English for Speakers of Other Languages department at EPCC’s MdP campus now has new computer software and technology available to students.

One of the computer software programs is called the Side By Side Interactive Series. The program helps improve reading, writing, and listening skills for those students who have placed into intermediate courses. Through this program, students get actively involved by completing assigned modules.

Two computer software programs that work hand in hand are the Basic Grammar Interactive and Understanding and Using English Grammar Interactive computer programs. These programs allow students to sign up with their username and password to be able to complete the lab exercises assigned by their instructor. In addition, it allows the instructor to easily monitor each student’s progress.

Accutrack is another new software that is currently installed under a trial basis at the MdP Campus. Accutrack provides an automatic log-in for students with a valid student ID. A bonus to this automatic log-in is that students no longer have to carry a paper lab sheet, but instead the computer automatically calculates their acquired lab hours then sends them to instructors for credit.

Miguel Contreras, lab assistant, was excited about the new advancements because they are the first to use it and it simplifies the log-in process.
