World War Z warns of doomsday
By Javier Cortez

Max Brooks, author of the Zombie Survival Guide, challenges us to, once again, suspend our disbelief and travel into a world where the human race has just survived total elimination.

In order to revive the memories so hauntingly fresh in the minds of all, Brooks embarks upon a journey across the United States and throughout the world.

The end result is his new book entitled, World War Z. It's a tale of a world gone mad in the wake of a plague that "came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity!"
His feverish pursuit of the truth allows him to capture what is without a doubt the most endearing testament to the zombie war.

"It wasn't long before the undead threat could no longer be ignored.,” wrote Brooks. “Unfortunately, it wasn't until they came crashing through our doors that this happened."

During his travels, Brooks interviews survivors of the zombie war to get a first hand account of the cataclysmic events which shaped the world we now live in.

From those who encountered the first known infected, (“patient zero”) to those who fought on the infested front lines of World War Z, Brooks captures with chilling and convincing detail, the reality of those apocalyptic years.

In doing so, he paints a scene so desperate and dark that only the dead could ignore the tortured cries and chilling testimony, which emanate from its binding. More importantly, he captures the human element, in a time where the world almost forgot the meaning of humanity.

As hopeless and morbid as it may seem, the book also shares memories of great triumphs of the human spirit. In a time when the eradication of the zombie threat seemed impossible, Brooks proves that it was the ineradicable human spirit that won the war in the end.

Stories of nuns defending orphans against hordes of the undead, to stories of the newly formed military taking on millions of 'G's' in an all- out offensive battle to take back the world, define World War Z.

Be warned, the book spares no gory detail of the events, which unfolded and can at times be difficult to read, especially for the faint of heart. But if the truth is what you want, you'll get it piece by bloody piece.

Seemingly fitting for the month of October, World War Z is a must -read for any fan of zombie fiction or anyone looking for a good scare. The book combines documentary style story telling with amazing detail to enthrall the reader and lend itself “credibility.”

Brooks makes sure to include a plentitude of comic relief to ease your nerves because, believe me, you'll need it! Great characters fill the pages of this book, each with their own unique personalities. Brooks also does an excellent job of bringing the zombies to “life” and makes sure that no stone is left unturned.

It's not long before it's discovered that Brooks is, without a doubt, the leading authority on zombie warfare. Still true to its zombie roots, the book leaves nothing to the imagination in its gory depiction of events. Every bullet-riddled passage ties into the next at one point or another, answering any unanswered questions you might have. Footnotes add to the effect of realism and fill you in on any zombie war jargon and culture.

The book isn't all blood and guts though, and it could easily be said that this book is by far the smartest zombie novel in a long line of brainless predecessors.
