For
those who missed the opportunity to watch clueless victims being killed
off by a homicidal maniac by wielding a chainsaw can now finally rejoice
because the Leatherface returns in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
The new film is a prequel to the remake that came out three years
ago. Though the remake was somewhat entertaining, The Beginning is
better. It tells the story of how Leatherface became the killer we
all know and love.
The story starts in 1969 with Eric Hill (Matthew Bomer) on his way
back to Vietnam, with his brother, Dean (Taylor Handley). They are
joined by their girlfriends, Chrissie (Jordana Brewster) and Bailey
(Diora Baird).
The group decides to have one more chance of having some fun driving
across Texas. Meanwhile, a small town in Texas has been deserted,
leaving only a meat packing plant to “close” down, which
is key to the story.
Many have already left the town, with the exception of the Hewitt
family, and their newly adopted son Thomas. Once again, R. Lee Ermey
reprises his role of Sheriff Hoyt, who is great in every scene he’s
in.
The film shows how his character came to be, along with the origins
of his family. Many fans will be looking forward to another dinner
scene, as well as a chase scene that comes towards the end of the
film.
Though the movie didn’t reveal too much about his childhood
or teenage years, it did give some insight on how Leatherface came
to be. The cast does a fine job of what their roles required for their
scenes.
The movie added some emotional and psychological parts to many of
the characters roles, which made their performances more interesting
to watch on screen.
Those who go to this movie to see yet another Chainsaw Massacre will
not be disappointed by it.
