Dual credit courses not fair to the rest of us
From Esmeralda Subia

There is a new program available for high school freshman, which was recently initiated at the Mission del Paso EPCC campus.

This program will allow students who have been selected to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree. Hats off to the 125 students who were admitted for this first year and are placing education as their number one priority.

Now, while the concept of the program is great, imagine the surprise when hearing the program is FREE for these students! As an EPCC student who does not qualify for financial aid, this information was shocking and frustrating. If these students are going to be receiving a college education, they should be required to pay tuition like every other EPCC student.

By collecting tuition from these unique individuals, it could help benefit other EPCC students. The Mission del Paso campus does not have a bookstore and these funds could help to make it possible in the near future.

This program sounds awesome for students who are serious about their education; however, higher education does come at a cost and this program should be no exception.
