Men set record at UTPB cross country meet

The EPCC Men’s and Women’s cross country teams took first place in the 4th Annual University of Texas Permian Basin Invite on Oct. 6.

Both teams took five of the top eight individual positions. The women took places one, two, four, six and eight earning 21 points, while the men finished in first, third, sixth, seventh and eighth, earning 25 points.

Gabriela Ramos finished the race in first place with a time of 19:17, just eight seconds short of the Commanche Trails course record for the women.

Paola Rodriguez finished 31 seconds behind Ramos in second place.

Robert Menjo and Ramon Acosta broke the course record of 28:03. Menjo finished first with a time of 25:58 and Acosta finished at 27:50.

EPCC’s competitors included Odessa College, Texas Tech University, Sul Ross State University, Lubbock Christian University, University of Texas Permian Basin and New Mexico Junior College’s women participated.

Menjo is ranked 18th and Ramos 30th in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I, according to Hill-n-Dale, the official NJCAA Division I cross country rankings.
