Modest, jovial and hardworking, 19-year-old Kristin Jaramillo is a promising young athlete for EPCC’s softball team.
“I owe all my techniques to my lifetime coach Glen Trujillo, who taught me everything I know since little league and throughout high school,” said Jaramillo.
“I didn’t get any good scholarship offers so I decided to just go to school.”
Jaramillo enrolled at NMSU in the business program for a semester. It was then when she met up with old friends and was invited to play with the Tejanas.
“Kris is one of the leaders on our team,” said Andria Martinez, Jaramillo’s teammate. “She’s very vocal and works hard.”
Jaramillo said she learned the value of unity through her family.
“Even though I have been independent most of my life, my family is my support system, and I know that they will always be there,” she said.
When asked about living in El Paso, Jaramillo said, “I
like it. It’s different because I’m from a small town.
“It’s not home, but it’s fun going to school and meeting new people.”
Jaramillo is now undecided in her major.
“I think I want to go into psychology, social work or counseling,” she said. “I love working with kids. This is my life, softball and school. This is why I’m here.”
When asked if she considered herself the star of the team, she said, “I wouldn’t say that I’m a star. We all have our shining moments, but if one of us shines, we all shine.”
Head Coach Amanda Gamboa said, “It’s hard to find great athletes, and she’s a great athlete.”
