Immigration
Dreams is a play that debuts this week at EPCC and runs through the
weekend. With its very controversial topic, this play promises to
be a must see.
The play tells of immigrants and the American Dream, showing how it
was fulfilled or in some cases faded into other dreams.
“The play has been five years in the making and until this past
school year, was just six monologues,” said Hector Serrano,
the play’s director. “Now it has music and movement and
all the scenes are now tied together.”
We wanted to do a play with timely issues regarding immigration that
anyone in the Southwest region can identify with,” said Serrano.
The play, written by UTEP professor Joel Murray, explores all sides
of today’s controversial immigration issues. It shows both,
the positive and the abusive aspects.
“The play is for everyone, not only for people who are involved
with literature and the arts.” said Jeanne Foskett, English
instructor and chair of the Salute to the Arts program.
The play will run from Oct. 5 to Oct. 7 at the El Paso Community College
Transmountain campus Forum Theater. The price for admission will be
$5 for students with valid student ID, military or seniors.
General admission will be $10. The play will conclude on Saturday,
and the public is invited to have dinner with playwright, Joel Murray.
Showtimes for the plays are 7:30 p.m. for Thursday’s performance.
Friday and Saturdays performances are scheduled for 6 p.m.
