Seven
new scholarships are now available for EPCC students. Each scholarship
is for $1,000 with $500 awarded each semester. The scholarships are
for different categories and eligibilities. These new scholarships
are available thanks to graduation speakers and other associates of
EPCC.
The Amado M. Peña Jr. scholarship is available to art majors.
The Quintanilla scholarship, was raised by EPCC board member Gracie
Quintanilla and former board member and current Texas State Representative,
Chente Quintanilla.
This scholarship is available to students majoring in Education. Students
applying for this scholarship must be a graduate from high school
in the Tornillo, Socorro or Fabens districts.
El Paso Artist Jose Cisneros’s funds for two scholarships which
were raised from the sales of some of his prints and artwork. These
scholarships are available to students majoring in visual arts and
performing literary arts.
Adair Margo, known for her leadership in humanitarian and educational
efforts, has sponsored a scholarship for students majoring in visual,
literary and performing arts.
President of MFI International Manufacturing, Cecilia Levine, has
a scholarship for students majoring in business, accounting and finance.
George W.S Abbey, who is an accomplished professional in the field
of science and education, also sponsored a scholarship for students
majoring in science, engineering and math.
“Its good to hear that people like this are setting up new funds
for us. I didn’t get enough financial aid to cover a full-time
schedule this year, plus I had to spend a ridiculous amount of money
on books. So, hopefully I can score one of these scholarships,”
said Michel Grunsten an EPCC student.
Most require that students are currently full-time at EPCC with a
3.0 cumulative GPA. Packets ask for reference letters and essays on
various topics. The deadline for all of these new scholarships is
on Oct. 11, and scholarship recipients will be notified by Oct. 13.
