Fourth of July parade celebrates Independence Day
By Brenda Meza

The annual Fourth of July parade offered spectators a colorful show of hundreds of American flags waving in each of the passing cars that rode around the east side of town.

The El Paso Del Norte Lions Club, which fundraises for charitable organizations and is a former provider of scholarships to EPCC, sponsored the event.

“Our 4th of July parade is something we do to give back to our community,” said Vivienne Archuleta, member of Del Norte Lions Club.

“We’ve been involved for many years and it is always a great experience,” she added.

“We just like to see our community come together.”

Some U.S. Army veterans, like John Moreno, were present at the event to show their patriotic spirit.

“It is difficult to put in words how I feel about being a vet, having had my father, brother and uncles served the armed forces. God Bless America!” said Moreno.

Sergio Archuleta, vice president of Del Norte Lions Club, offered some words for the soldiers overseas.
“We participate in this parade to show our troops who are far away, that they are not alone, they are always in our hearts,” said Archuleta. “Don’t give up; our country is worth fighting for.”

Carol Walp, band member for Hanks High School, said this year’s Fourth of July parade had an impressive turnout of various participants.

“It’s great to be out here showing our pride in America’s independence. It’s really patriotic out here, and it’s nice to see people showing their support.”

Some of the parade’s supporters included the US Army Veterans, UTEP Lions Club, Montwood NJROTC, Century 21, Hanks High, Scottsdale Baptist School, and Evolution Dance Studio.
