The
EPCC softball team is ready to get back home after a long road trip
and start their six-game weekend.
The Tejanas faced defending National Junior College Athletic Association
champions, Central Arizona College, which is 0-2 in NJCAA play. The
Tejanas played a double-header on February 26, against Howard College
and lost 9-1 and 8-5.
"Our biggest problem on the road has been our pitching,"
said Coach Grady. The biggest part of the problem is Desiree Martinez,
the team's best pitcher, has been out all season due to illness.
The Tejanas got off to a 5-2 start, which included a four-game winning
streak. The softball team then traveled to Odessa, Texas for a tournament
and lost four of the five games.
"It's going to be nice to be back at home," said Grady.
After getting rained out at Western Texas College on February 25,
the Tejanas went to Big Springs, Texas, and got swept by Howard College.
With Martinez returning from her illness, Grady believes that the
Tejanas will do well in conference play. "I expect us to do well
enough to qualify for the Region V Tournament," said Grady.
The Region V Tourney will be held in El Paso this year from May 6-7.
The Tejanas host Frank Phillips College on March 3, then meet Clarendon
College on March 4.
