EPCC police warn alcohol poisoning is on the rise
By Leslie Council

The EPCC Police Dept. would like to raise awareness about alcohol poisoning deaths on the rise. A DVD about the 2004 death of Patty Spady, 19, a student at Colorado State, and the impact it made on her family and friends, is available by request from EPCCPD.

The movie tells about how American college culture includes alcoholism as a sport. Binge drinking and the rapid consumption of alcohol mixed with bad judgment about “sleeping it off” have caused over 1,400 campus deaths a year.

For students participating in such events, especially with underage drinking across the border, it is necessary to react quickly and responsibly when danger signs are visible.

It is suggested to never leave an intoxicated person alone. After binge drinking or drinking heavy liquor, it is suggested not to sleep because the body continues to metabolize the alcohol.
