UTEP Transfer Services now has a permanent home at the Valle Verde campus, allowing students to walk up to an open window for questions or enter the office for an appointment or workshops.

Instead of having to complete the application process at UTEP, students may now do so at their own convenience at the office, located in room A-1427.

“We can help a student with the outside admission application process,” said Nancy Vasquez, UTEP admissions counselor. “Students can drop off admission’s supporting documents.”

The new facility includes a resource room that is equipped with a computer, transfer guides and catalogs for other colleges and universities nationwide.

“The office is a miniature version of our office at UTEP,” said Vasquez. “We have been recruiting here for several

years, and this is just something that made the partnership between EPCC Career Services Department/Transfer Services and the UTEP Office of Admissions and Recruitment stronger. We are so happy to set up here.”

Margarita Pinales, education student, was recently able to take advantage of the new office by applying for her first time at UTEP.

“If it wasn’t for the window, I would have to go all the way to UTEP, and I do not have the time,” said Pinales.
“I was just passing by and asked for information. It’s way easier to complete my application here, since I have kids. They should have done this a long time ago.”

The UTEP Transfer Services office also offers workshops on how to transfer successfully, one of which was the International Connections Workshop.

This assisted international students in determining the requirements for enrolling at UTEP.

Carla Cardoza, director of EPCC Career Services, initiated UTEP last semester to have its own office at VV, and UTEP followed suit by having its grand opening on Feb. 6.

“We had a ribbon-cutting ceremony in which both UTEP representatives and EPCC representatives participated. We raffled off UTEP gift bags, gave away two IPODs and hosted a workshop in addition to informational tables around campus,” said Vasquez. “About 400 students attended.”

The office is open Tuesdays, 2 to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this semester. However, according to Vasquez, the hours may be extended and the office may open for additional days in the week in the up-coming semesters.

Appointments for transfer counseling can be made in person or by phone at 831-2831.
