Despite reaching gold at the box office with $22 million, Fool’s Gold leaves audiences searching for the gold in this movie.
This is the second time actor Matthew McConaughey and actress Kate Hudson pair up in a film, the first time being successful in the film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. However, this time they weren’t such a great twosome.
While they are cute together, they just don’t seem to have a great connection and the chemistry seems to be a little forced.
The movie starts out with a pathetic treasure hunter named Finn (McConaughey) who seems to be in over his head with a desperate search for a long-lost treasure, a
burdensome divorce from his wife Tess (Hudson) who was also a treasure hunter, and the money that he owes to a very peculiar rapper, Bigg Bunny (Kevin Hart).
In the end, it might just be that the one thing that was pushing this couple apart is the saving factor in their relationship.
This movie seems like it’s striving to make everyone laugh with some wild stunts and eccentric characters. Fool’s Gold continues to try hard to be a romantic comedy, but there are only a few brief points of actual romance.
The movie should have made the characters just a little smarter, like having them do research of the hidden treasure. In some scenes, they seem to have just stumbled upon their treasure theory by accident and not based on any actual thought.
Overall, this movie has amusing parts and is good for those just wanting to watch something simple without a whole lot of thought put into the plot.
