Giovanna Nuanes is living the dream playing with the Tejanas.
“For the love of the game” is a statement that the versatile pitcher/outfielder Nuanes agrees with most definitely.
The recent graduate from Silva High School who goes by Gio, is trying to tackle the obstacles of college while fulfilling her ambition.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play college baseball, and now that I am here, it motivates me to want to get better,” said Nuanes. “I need to prove to myself and to everyone else that I can actually do it.”
The freshman pitcher used to be a right-handed hitter, but is now using her left hand since joining the team.
She said that one of her goals is “to become a better slapper, to improve and get better.”
Nuanes said that she strives to improve her outfield skills and time management. She plans to pursue a career, not as an athlete, but related to that field.
“I always wanted to be a physical therapist and train for the Olympic team,” said Nuanes.
The Tejanas begin Western Junior College Athletic Conference play with a two-game series against Frank Phillips College this Friday at 1 p.m. at home.
They will also play Saturday at
11 a.m. in a two-game series
against Clarendon College, also at EPCC.
