A story unlike any other offers a tale of fantasy, horror, sadness, mystery, ghosts, and other mixed-up
feelings which makes this a great film.
The Orphanage is a movie produced by Guillermo Del Toro, director and producer of Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy.
Spaniard Juan Antonio Bayona directed The Orphanage with help from fellow countrymen, Sergio G. Sanchez, who wrote the screenplay.
The film resembles Del Toro's previous film Pan's Labyrinth in the way the movie mixes fantasy with reality, as well in the cinematographic aspect of the film.
The film is set in Spain in an old orphanage that is going to be reopened by Laura and Carlos, played by Belen Rueda and Fernando Cayo. Soon their son Simon, portrayed by Roger Princep, begins to see things.
The colors and sounds of the film bring the great performances in the film together. This is definitely a must-see film even though it is in Spanish and the subtitles may make it difficult for those who don't understand the language.
The Orphanage adds to the long list of success films by Del Toro who is currently working in the post-production of Hellboy: The Golden Army, the sequel of his 2004 film.
Del Toro is in negotiations to direct The Hobbit dualogy, a prequel to The Lord of the Rings.
The Orphanage accomplishes what many films have failed to do - scare me!
This film is highly recommended especially if you go with that special someone in your life.
The importance to detail in this frightening film, the fantastic plot and the ending, make this film a ghoulish treasure in cinema and a film you should definitely not miss.
