New editor hopes to leave mark
By Leslie Council

Greetings and salutations El Paso Community College! I am Leslie Council, the new editor of El Conquistador. I hope the new year has brought you all great inspiration and continued successes in your educational journey. I am ready for spring.

Things are blooming; great student-sponsored club events are in full-swing and the Spring Arts Festival is under way! I am a full-time student and single mother, majoring in Advertising and Graphics Design.

I attend Valle Verde. I have also visited many other campuses while working with the school's literary magazine, Chrysalis. While on my own journey, I encountered challenges and though I have overcome many to get here, I realize there are new ones to face continuously.

I have very strong beliefs- some controversial, but am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in. Many people still recognize me from participating in the yearly Poetry Slam for so many years.

I am also President of the Poetry Club, Art Director for Chrysalis, and I hope to start a community venue sponsoring open-mic poetry events. As a reporter, I have come to be aware of concerns from a wider student body and hope to bring to light some of those issues.

I believe change can only come if we work together in a positive way. With my staff, we will strive to bring you up-to-date information that will guide you throughout your journey.

We are continuous in our efforts to enlighten the student body about events, relevant student issues, and we will strive to make changes in the schools that are much needed. It's been a pleasure working at El Conquistador.

Please, if you have story ideas, know students or faculty that need to be acknowledged for what they do, or have issues that need to be investigated, contact me at elconquistador@epcc.edu or come by our office, A2708.
