ASARCO takes its fight to Austin
By Leslie Council

The El Paso-based smelting and refining company, ASARCO, is applying for an Air Quality Permit Renewal in Austin, Texas.
Acorn, a community organization against this renewal, is in pursuit of interested persons available for a three day trip by bus. Board and meals will be provided with just a donation of $30.

This trip is being catered by State Senator Eliot Shapleigh. To reserve a seat the donations must be made no later than Monday, Feb.6.

For those unable to attend, a signature on their petition can speak against Asarco. For more information call Ken Vicari at 253-2527.

DETAILS: The petition states: "We, the undersigned, believe it is a human right to live in neighborhoods that are free of contamination and hazardous materials. We demand that the commissioners for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality reject ASARCO's application for Air Quality Permit Renewal."
