Purpose: To update professional skills with on-the-job training made possible by paid leaves.

Timelines are announced early each fall. A professional development leave application packet must be completed and forwarded to the Faculty Professional Development Committee through your dean. Upon committee review, recommendations are made to the Vice President of Instruction who contacts each applicant. Applications are generally submitted no later than the January preceding the requested leave period. Leave recipients will receive full salary for a one semester leave and half salary for the academic year. 

Available to:  Probationary (tenure-track) faculty who have worked a minimum of one year are eligible for a short-term leave. Tenured faculty are eligible for an extended leave.
 
Proposals for Professional Development Leaves for Fall 2009, Spring 2010, and Summer 2010 are due on January 19, 2009, to your immediate supervisor.  Proposals may be submitted for externships, special projects and educational leaves for one to two semesters.
 

Timeline


September 2008 - January 2009 Applicants should contact Faculty Development Coordinator to discuss their professional development leave request.
January 30, 2009 Requests for professional development (including externships, educational leaves, special projects, and internships) leaves submitted to Dean/Supervisor.
February 13, 2009 Dean forwards requests with recommendations/comments to Faculty Development Office to be held for committee's review.
February 16 - March 14, 2009 Faculty Professional Development Committee will review requests.
By March 31, 2009 Faculty Professional Development Committee submits recommendations to Vice President of Instruction 
April 2009 Vice President of Instruction will notify the appropriate dean/supervisors of recommended approved leaves in order that leave costs can be included in the budgetary process.  Upon administrative approval, the supervisor will forward a Personnel Action Record through administrative channels to the Personnel Department for final approval by the Board of Trustees.
April/May 2009 Vice President of Instruction will present leave requests to Board of Trustees for final approval.
