Antonio A. Vargas

 Professor of Computer Science

Antonio (Tony) Vargas is a native El Paso resident. He graduated from Austin High School in 1964 and started his collegiate career attending Texas Western College for two years. He served in the US Navy from June 1966 to July 1968 aboard a Destroyer home ported in Charleston South Carolina. He returned to School and received his BBA in 1970. He then managed his family business for twenty-five years implementing computerized inventory and payroll systems. That experience of creating and configuring created an interest in pursuing a new career in the IT field. He returned to school and in 1996, earned a BBA with emphasis in Information Systems.

Tony Vargas


Tony started at EPCC as a Part time instructor teaching Computer classes on the Rio Grande Campus. He was hired as a Lecturer and then in 1997, as tenure track faculty. In 2002, he earned his MS from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and received his Tenured Faculty status from EPCC.


In addition to his faculty duties, he serves as the Director of the Cisco Regional Networking Academy that offers training in CCNA, CCNP and CCNA security certification training.

He also serves as Co-Chair on the Integrated Technology Committee.
