The Employee Relations Department is pleased to announce the implementation of the revised grievance procedure, Employee Grievances on Complaints on Wages, Hours, or Working Conditions (3.43.02.10) that incorporates the option of Mediation into the process.
What is Mediation?
Mediation is a method of non-binding dispute resolution involving a neutral third party who assists the disputing parties (usually, an employee and supervisor) reach a mutually agreeable solution. It gives the parties an opportunity to resolve their dispute themselves, and as early in the grievance process as possible.
When does it Occur?
Mediation may occur at any point during the grievance procedure process. Should mediation not accomplish satisfactory results, the grievance procedure will recommence at the point before mediation began. Mediation may occur repeatedly through the grievance process.
Who are the Mediators?
Mediators are employees from each employee category who have taken a 40-hour course and are now state certified to mediate issues between parties, usually a supervisor and employee.
How are Mediators selected? A Mediator is selected from the group of trained employee mediators shown below. Both employee and supervisor must agree on a Mediator.
