The Early College High School (ECHS) Initiative is designed to allow students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate Degree in four years. The ECHS must target and enroll students who are historically underrepresented in higher education, including economically disadvantaged, first-generation, English Language Learners, and minority students.
The key to the success of this initiative is a strong partnership between the independent school districts (ISD's) and higher education institutions. In the State of Texas, El Paso Community College has partnered with Socorro ISD, Ysleta ISD, Canutillo ISD, El Paso ISD, Fabens ISD, Tornillo ISD, Ft. Hancock ISD, and Clint ISD to provide twelve early college high schools. We are currently serving more than 2,800 students through this exciting and innovative educational experience.
