What is Cooperative Education?

Cooperative Education is a program which combines classroom study with actual work experience in a company or agency in El Paso, nationwide or international.

On-the-job work experience is an integral part of any student's education, and the Cooperative Education Program provides a well-planned, supervised work experience related to you're academic major and your career objectives. Cooperative Education is an academic program where the student receives college credit. Consult with a Cooperative Education instructor within the major that you are pursuing to get their approval, before enrolling in the Co-op Ed. program.

In general, to enter into the Co-op Ed. program it's required that you have 30 credit hours, with a 2.0 GPA and a minimum of two core classes in the major that you are pursuing or if you where in the Co-op Ed. program in High School.

How Does it Work?

During each semester the District-wide Cooperative Education Office, along with faculty and coordinators, work diligently to develop work sites that ensure a meaningful work experience for the students. A training plan is developed that outlines the student's objectives and the tasks that will be performed during the training period.

Earn College Credit

All Co-op Ed. courses offer credit towards graduation for successful completion of the program. Students attend weekly a one-half seminar at the college to discuss related topics, experiences and progress.
