College work-study is a student assistance program, which provides part-time employment for students. The earnings can be used to help pay educational expenses. Both on campus and off campus positions are available. To be considered for work-study, a student must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (
FAFSA) for the award year. On the
FAFSA, you should answer "YES" to the question asking if you are interested in work-study. The information submitted on this application is analyzed to determine whether you are eligible for financial aid such as grants and work-study.
Once the information you submitted has been evaluated by our office and eligibility determined, an award letter listing your eligibility for financial aid will be sent to you. If you are not awarded work-study, there could be several reasons:
- You did not meet the March 15th priority date
- You did not request work-study on the FAFSA;
- You are ineligible for work-study funds; or
- We have exhausted our work-study funds and have no more money to award to students. Earliest applicants are considered first, so, if you are eligible, filing your FAFSA early each year offers you the best opportunity for this award.
Eligibility
- Full-time enrollment (12 sem hrs Fall/Spring, 6 sem hrs Summer)
- Financial need as determined by stated criteria
- Good academic standing
- U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Not in default on a federal loan or owe refund to federal grant
Limitations
- Maximum of 15 hours of work/week
- Current federal minimum wage $6.55
- Total pay per Fall or Spring term may not exceed the limit of identified financial need
