Are You Ready For Online Classes? |
Are
you prepared to take online courses at EPCC?
In order to be
successful in online courses, students need to have several basic computer
skills. Taking computer literacy, keyboarding, and word
processing
courses is a great start, but may not be enough.
Examples of skills necessary for success in an online class include conducting
online research, use of email
(send, receive, and attachments), and creating
a report with a word processing program (such as Microsoft
Word).
You
have an opportunity to complete READI (Readiness for Education at a
Distance Indicator), an online readiness assessment. This is a wonderful
way
to check both your computer to be sure it is ready for class, but to also
check your skills to be sure you can successfully complete the activities your
instructor requires.
READI is a
tool that helps you determine your level of readiness for taking online courses.
You will be asked questions on topics, such as "how well you can use
a
computer," "how motivated, organized, and self-directed you are," and "how
you prefer to learn new information." You will also be able to measure
your on-screen
reading speed and comprehension. The readiness assessment will
also provide tips you can use to make you a better online student.
But
relax, READI is fun. Your scores on this assessment will not prevent you from
taking online courses. Moreover, your scores do not impact your grades in
courses
you may currently be taking. READI is being provided by EPCC to
help you understand your strengths and weaknesses as you prepare to learn
online.
READI is a tool to help you succeed!
READI takes about
20 minutes to complete and is free of charge.
