Diesel Mechanics

 Course Overview

This is a four-semester program. The Diesel Mechanics program provides a foundation in the latest diesel technology and instruction in the diagnoses, service and repair of heavy duty vehicles and equipment. The Advanced Technology Center Diesel Mechanics program is modeled after the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF) standards for Medium\Heavy Duty Truck Technicians. Students will have the skills to make necessary repairs on the following: modern diesel engines and fuel management systems, electricity, and electronics found in most trucks and trailers, heavy duty truck hydraulic systems, brake systems, standard and automatic transmissions, suspension and steering systems, HVAC, repair and maintenance of heavy-duty truck trailers, clutches and differentials with heavy emphasis on diagnosis and repair. Students completing the program will be ready to be part of the workforce in an entry-level position. The capstone course for the Certificate of Completion is DEMR 2432, Electronic Controls. This program may start at any time during the calendar year.
