Common Questions:

  • Where is your office located?

We are located in M109 in the old Physical Plant building on the eastern side of the Valle Verde Campus.

  • My class was cancelled. What do I do now?

Classes are cancelled for a variety of reasons. If your class is cancelled, you will receive a call and email from the dean’s office. You will be given options ranging from transferring to another class offered at the same time to registering for a class at a different time. Classes are typically cancelled during late registration which gives students a chance to register for a class if needed.

  • What are class petitions and how do they work?

Class petitions can be used to get into closed courses, evaluating courses, late registration, course substitutions, and standalone lecture/lab classes. Petitions can be picked up from counselors or the Division office. A student will fill out the petition with clear explanations as to the nature of the petition and turn it into the Division office. The discipline coordinator will then review it and send their recommendations back to the Division office for further review. The student will then be called back with the outcome of the petition.

  • A class I am looking to register for is closed. Can I still get into the class? Can I register after classes have started?

Over-tallies are allowed only after the payment deadline as seats are often released at that time. NOTE: Not all over-tallies are approved due to classroom space and instructor approval. Registration after classes have started is allowed under very limited circumstances.

  • I have a concern about my class or instructor. What can I do?

The first person to talk to is your instructor. If that does not resolve the concern or you do not feel comfortable talking to your instructor, come into the Division office. Concerns with adjunct faculty are then forwarded to the discipline coordinator. If the faculty is full-time or you feel it is needed, you can schedule a meeting with the dean. A student concern form may be filled out at any time with the option to keep concerns confidential.
